CRESCENDO CHOIR

October 07, 2017

Crescendo choir is a non-profit Tasmanian Education Department group with choir members ages ranging from 7 to 19 years. Crescendo members have performed and travelled regularly within Australia, sharing choral music with schools and the community and with other choirs, through Eisteddfod performances and school exchanges and public performances.  Members of the Senior choir have also travelled overseas, sharing Australian culture and music in Japan, New Zealand and South Korea.

The choir have most recently sung alongside Missy Higgins and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra in 2016 and Neil Finn in 2017 at Skyfields Festival.

Crescendo commissioned Australian composer, Paul Jarman to compose a choral work, The Mountain, with its pieces woven around our iconic Cradle Mountain and its pioneers. This work was premiered at Government House in 2016 and in 2017 performed part of the work as an invited guest choir at the Brisbane National Choral Festival.

In December 2017 Crescendo will be hosting a Christmas Concert Spectacular, with all funds raised donated to a youth homeless project on the North-West Coast. For this concert our Senior members have been learning the art of bell ringing and are aiming to perform a hand bell version of Carol of the Bells, and also add handbell accompaniment to choral pieces. There has been much fun, laughter and determination in the students’ quest to conquer hand bell ringing. Crescendo really appreciates the opportunity provided by the Handbell Association of Australasia to enable members to have this wonderful experience
